Job Description

An experienced employment lawyer (5 years PQE+) is required to take a leading role alongside our commercial and litigation team to maintain and further develop the Company’s employment law and HR service offering. The employment team advise employer and employee clients on privately funded matters.

The ideal candidate will be a strong generalist with experience of dealing with the full range of HR and employment law matters. Experience of reviewing service provision, leadership / mentoring and a genuine interest in business development is essential.

Essential Knowledge and Experience

  • Advising employees and employers, in the private and public sector, on a range of employment problems including:

a) grievance and disciplinary proceedings;

b) redundancy selection and consultation;

c) collective consultation

d) unfair and constructive dismissal;

e) discrimination and harassment;

f) TUPE;

g) contracts of employment, policies and handbooks;

h) ill health absence and dismissals;

i) unlawful deductions from wages;

j) identifying employment status.

  • Advising employees and employers on Settlement Agreements.
  • Acting for Claimants and Respondents in Employment Tribunal proceedings (up to full hearing).
  • Advising clients who have signed up to an HR Advice Service on an annual retainer basis.

Desirable Experience

  • Supporting corporate and commercial colleagues in mergers, acquisitions, share sales and other corporate and commercial transactions;
  • Advocacy in Employment Tribunal;
  • Experience of litigating and defending breach of restrictive covenant actions;
  • Experience of litigating and defending protective award claims;
  • Experience of litigating and defending equal pay claims;
  • Experience of advising upon immigration i.e. right to work in the UK and work permits.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in the use of all MS Office applications, email and the internet.
  • Knowledge of legal case management systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Pro-active and self motivated.

  • Salary range: £40,000-£55,000 per annum depending on experience.
