Job Description

Main purpose and objectives

You will be expected to build and manage a caseload, advising clients on a full range of commercial property matters including, but not limited to: freehold/leasehold acquisitions and sales, new leases and lease renewals and re-mortgages.

To work as part of a team, offering pragmatic commercial property advice and providing corporate support to corporate & commercial colleagues in the sales and purchases of businesses operating from commercial premises.

You will draft and review various legal documents and liaise and communicate with clients and other professionals, providing tailored advice and building strong professional relationships along the way.

To be actively involved in the development of the department - this will include networking, strengthening existing client relationships and winning new business.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Able to take a commercial approach, sound drafting skills;
  • Good listening and problem solving skills - a logical thinker with the ability to communicate technical issues at all levels;
  • Motivated, outgoing, organised individual with a structured reliable approach to both resolving issues and developing solutions;
  • To assist, conduct and manage various Commercial Property transactions, including: leases, sales, purchases and re-mortgages with registered, unregistered, leasehold and freehold properties;
  • To deal proactively with a wide range of correspondence and be able to work on own initiative;
  • Update and follow-up clients, agents and third parties by telephone and email;
  • Drafting, reviewing, amending and issuing legal documents;
  • Draft various transaction reports to clients and professional lenders;
  • Develop a good working knowledge of the case management system;
  • You will be able to take and convert commercial property enquiries;
  • Support colleagues within the department, liaising with existing and new clients, working efficiently, effectively and professionally;
  • Able to take on challenges and see solutions through to successful conclusion;

  • Ensure compliance with SRA, Lexcel, Law Society Quality Scheme standards, SARs and accounting requirements;
  • Any other duties deemed to be within the capability of the post holder.

Essential competencies

  • Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with around 1 – 3 year PQE in this area of law;
  • Experience of working in a similar role within a fast-paced Commercial Property Department;
  • Able to demonstrate practical knowledge of the Commercial Property transaction process, from inception to completion;
  • Experience of sale/purchase/re-mortgage/freehold/leasehold transactions;
  • Passionate about giving outstanding client care to clients and referrers;
  • Proven business development skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, sensitivity, tact and diplomacy;
  • Accurate and articulate in written and spoken communication (including excellent spelling and grammar);
  • Attention to detail, accuracy with numbers and calculations;
  • Excellent administrative, planning and organisation skills to meet deadlines, understanding the importance of working to strict time scales;
  • Proficient in the use of all MS Office applications, email and the internet;
  • Pro-active and self motivated with a desire to further your career in this area of law;
  • Knowledge of the local area and market.

Desirable competencies

  • Knowledge and understanding of case management system (SOS Connect);

Salary starting point: £32,000 per annum depending on experience.
