Job Description

With a focus on developing key relationships, this varied role works closely with the Head of Business Development and Marketing and the Business Development and Marketing Manager to deliver business development activities, manage the growth of the brand and support a wide range of marketing initiatives.


Key Responsibilities


The Business Development and Marketing Executive is responsible for:


·       Working with the senior team members on advertising and sponsorships – liaise with the publications and lawyers, proofread copy and supply artwork by the deadline, coordinate key events that the firm/teams sponsor.

·       Assisting with firm-wide marketing initiatives including internal communications, fundraising and events.

·       Ensuring brand guidelines are maintained internally and externally.

Digital marketing

·       Managing day to day website updates with support from website hosting company.  

·       Contributing to projects to improve the content and structure of the website.

·       Working with others to manage the firm’s social media channels, ensure they are updated regularly with new and engaging content to help increase the profile of the firm and its people and drive visitors to the website.

·       Creating and sending quality, consistently-branded email marketing communications. 

·       Being responsible for maintaining the analytics for debenhamsottaway.co.uk and social media engagement and reporting monthly to the Head of Marketing & Business Development.

Client related

·       Supporting the development and continuous improvement of the new client onboarding process.

·       Support a superb client experience through managing client surveys, encouraging reviews and sharing results, updating client-facing platforms with the latest stats.

·       Supporting virtual and physical events hosted or sponsored by the firm, including briefing the other practice support teams on the support they are expected to provide at these events. 

Internally facing

·       Work with others in practice support to send values-aligned internal comms.

·       Liaising with HR to take ownership of relevant elements of the starters and leavers process, including introduction meetings, website profiles and headshots.

·       Identifying and maximising opportunities for teams within the business to develop relationships with potential clients and raise their profile, through the use of appropriate marketing activities.

·       Being flexible to the needs of the team and the tasks at hand as per the Head of Business Development and Marketing’s direction.

·       Representing the business development and marketing team with integrity and honesty at all times.


·       Providing administration around tasks such as legal directories – agree and implement a process to collate and send submissions by the deadline and coordinate interviews with the researcher.

·       Assisting with compiling various statistics and analysis to help senior team members to create reports.

·       Implement the marcoms plans to support the legal team navigation charts.

·       Reporting on marketing budget and flag with the business development and marketing manager the teams that are not spending or overspending. 

·       Running, collating and distributing accurate, relevant reports ahead of partner meetings or for marketing communications purposes or business development opportunities.

·       Monitoring and reporting activities in the Key Relationships calendar.

·       Assisting in preparing for various business development meetings, team leader gatherings, client experience presentations, and hosted events, including setup, administration, note-taking, and managing follow-up actions.


Skills and Attributes



·       BA / BSc or Level 5 qualification (or level of experience) in a relevant field

·       Friendly, personable, and empathetic with an approachable manner

·       An understanding and experience of digital marketing techniques

·       Knowledge of website analytics tools

·       A sense of aesthetics and a love for great copy and witty communication

·       Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in online marketing and measurement

·       Proven communication skills with the confidence to interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels

·       Proven organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage workload effectively

·       Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders

·       Ability to work accurately and consistently with strong attention to detail

·       Proven IT skills, including use of a CRM and Microsoft Office suites is essential

·       Numerically literate, comfortable working with numbers, making sense of metrics and processing figures with spreadsheets.

·       A supportive and collaborative approach, team-spirited and can-do attitude.



·       Previous marketing and or business development experience

·       Creative design skills

·       Experience of use of email marketing software or portals, website content management systems and graphic design software such as Canva; along with a willingness to learn and improve these skills

·       Office working experience.
