Post of:                                 Head of Commercial Property SOLICITOR

 

Reporting to:                       Nominated Partner

 

Responsible for:                 Commercial Property Team

 

Purpose of Job:                  To provide a professional legal service to those clients allocated to the post-holder, and to lead and manage a team.

 

 

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.            Provide a comprehensive efficient and cost effective legal service to all clients of the firm allocated to the post-holder.  The work to normally comprise complex Commercial Property matters.  Respond professionally to client enquiries and take all necessary timely action arising from them.

 

2.            Provide appropriate input to the Firm’s business plan.  Involve own team to build department plan in support of the Firm’s business plan.  Communicate aims and objectives of the Firm with the team, and set and agree individual objectives with each member of the team to include department and personal goals.

 

3.            Provide appropriate direction, supervision and coaching to the allocated team, managing performance and conduct within the Firm’s procedure, to ensure the team work together effectively and efficiently.  Supervise the work of any fee earners and/or support staff to ensure it is performed to the highest standard.  Carry out regular staff reviews in line with the firm’s Feedback and Development Process.

 

4.            Hold regular team meetings, with a minimum of quarterly, to ensure that business and department progress is discussed and ideas shared.

 

5.            Proactively seek and drive forward new marketing opportunities and business or client development potential to promote the Firm’s business reputation.  Share knowledge of business opportunities with Partners and peer group as appropriate and lead resulting implementation as appropriate.  Recommend and implement new business methods or processes to enhance client service and Firm potential.

 

6.            To work in the best interest of the client and the firm and provide the highest standards of client care at all times.

 

7.            To update yourself on all aspects of the allocated area of work. Monitor all proposed legislation and prepare briefing notes to share with all other staff.  Use internal communication methods effectively to ensure all staff in the firm are informed as appropriate of legislative or procedure changes.

 

8.            Continually review and assist in the development of the information and electronic technology to ensure efficient and streamlined working practices.

 

9.            Assist with the training of other members of staff as required.

 

10.          To be responsible for the health and safety of all team members and self reporting any incidents or potential health and safety risks to the health and safety co-ordinator.

 

11.       To carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required in relation to a post of this nature.

 

 

 

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

 

  • Qualified Solicitor with current practising certificate and minimum of 7 years post qualified experience in the relevant areas of law;
  • Detailed knowledge, specialism and wide-ranging experience of working within Commercial Property area of law to include experience of complicated residential and commercial property matters;
  • Ability to draft documents;
  • Good commercial acumen;
  • Ability to relate to clients at all levels;
  • Proven experience of effectively managing teams;
  • Proven experience of marketing and working with management information;
  • Ability to delegate;
  • Professional communication skills;
  • Computer literate including good keyboard skills;
